It all began in 1928, when Mrs. Helen A. Lohmann of New Haven, Connecticut, and her mother, Quaker Oats heiress Mrs. J. H. Andrews, commissioned Alfred B. Yeomans to build a 26-room English Tudor Manor House in Southern Pines.
